Character: Rarely barking or nipping, this dog is well mannered and cheerful, although he can be wary of strangers. The Chinese Crested makes a good companion animal, and is always there to cheer you up. The breed does well in obedience classes and is willing to please his owner.
Temperament: A devoted family member, the Chinese Crested is gentle and playful. It does exceptionally well with children and other animals and is a well-adjusted breed. Very alert, highly intelligent, this dog is also prone to timidity and should be socialized both during puppy and adulthood.
Care: The Chinese Crested is very clean and has virtually no odor at all. The Hairless variety should always be protected from the cold and the sun. Using a sunscreen will protect this breed's sensitive skin from sunburn. The Powderpuff needs daily brushing and trimming to keep the coat clean and free of matting. This breed sheds little to no hair.
Training: Being a very intelligent breed, this dog does well in obedience type sports. Consistency is a must, however this breed can be relatively sensitive and should have a gentle trainer. The Chinese Crested is great at performing tricks.
Activity: The Chinese Crested does very well in apartment life and would do just fine without a fenced yard. Regular play sessions would be sufficient for this breed. When outdoors, this breed must always be protected from harsh sun, or cold weather.
